Bars & Collars

Bars & collars are pieces of equipment that is used in weight training and other forms of exercise such as weightlifting or powerlifting. The bars can be used to carry the weights and is used for squatting or bench presses. The collar is the piece of equipment that is used at the end of the weights to keep them on the bar. Weight training bars come in different sizes, which include five-foot bars, six-foot bars, or seven-foot bars. Bars & collars are essential in any weight training exercises.

The bar that is used is made of steel and comes in different diameters as well as lengths. The bars are also made to support a limited amount of weights, or plates. On the bar the central part of it is engraved in a crosshatch pattern that is designed to help the lifter gain a good grip on the bar, there is a lip placed a certain length from the center, which is designed to prevent the weights from sliding into the center of the bar. The disc weights, or plates, are placed on the outer portions of the bar to gain the desired weight. You must ensure that the weight plates that are placed on the bar are of equal weight to ensure a safe exercise. The weights are then secured with collars, which are designed to prevent the disc weights from sliding off during the exercise.

Bars and collars can be used for squatting, but are commonly used for bench presses. It is advised that if you intend to do bench presses that you do it with someone who will be able to watch you and assist you should you require it. This person is called a spotter and is important for the safety of the person who is doing the bench pressing. The spotter will have to be able to pick up or support the bar with weights if ever the person who is bench pressing fails to do so on their own.

There are different types of bars & collars, such as the Olympic bars as well as curl bars. The Olympic bars measure 86 inches and weighs 45 lbs. It is typically made of steel or chrome and is used in competitive weightlifting such as those in the Olympics or Commonwealth Games. The maximum weight that an Olympic bar can handle is 1,000 lbs. A curl bar is lighter and shorter than an Olympic bar and has two indentations for hand placement. A curl bar is believed to b more efficient to build upper-arm muscles and is used for bicep curls, upright rows and lying triceps extension exercises.
